I'm in the market for hearing aids. What I can't understand is why the prices differ that much. Can anyone share the experience? How can I choose the proper devices at a reasonable price?

My grandparents both wear hearing aids and the only thing i can say from their experience - see a professionals audiologist before checking the prices for different devices. Maybe it sounds weird but that's the truth

I am sure you heard about a huge news about OTC hearing aids. Those are much more affordable and the quality of some models is also good.
If that's only about prices for you, i am sure you will find a suitable option for yourself in a hearing aid store.
You can try to monitor prices on the model you like and get a discount somewhere, you just need to find those.
