If you’re looking for variety, you’re in the right place; the menu at Bangkok Thai is extensive and literally covers their entire shopfront. There’s something for everyone: choose from a variety of rice or noodle sets – think basil pork or chicken rice, tom yum soup or green chicken curry and rice, thai-style hor fun and more. There’s even a whole row of fried rice options, such as olive fried rice, pineapple rice, tom yum fried rice and the like.

If you’re visiting with friends and looking for a few dishes to share, you won’t go wrong with a mango or papaya salad, fried spring rolls, or even the sweet and sour fish. Do refrain from being overzealous when ordering your dishes, however; the portions are hearty and larger than the average hawker portion.

The pad thai ($5) is my favourite item, as it comes with a surprisingly delightful wok hei taste and aroma. Topped with prawns, a generous heap of peanuts, spring onions and a wedge of lime on the side, the noodles are sufficiently sweet without being too cloying or oily. The sweetness of the noodles balances well with the saltiness of the ingredients, enhanced by some (optional) chilli powder for a little kick.

The tom yum fried rice ($5) has great value for money, filled to the brim with various ingredients – including a couple of large prawns. Warning: this dish does have a good amount of heat, so do have a glass of water on standby!
